Day 1 - November 26 2008:
The IT and Productivity Paradox- Where are we?
Print version of this course outline
Rationale : The Nobel Laureate economist once said " we see computers everywhere except in the productivity statistics"
Productivity is the fundamental economic measure of technology's contribution. With this in mind, many CEOs, managers and government officials have begun to question thier huge investments in computers and related technologies. While major success stories exist, so do equally impressive failures. Measuring productivity gained from IT investment in some cases is getting difficult and this is resulted in justifying continuous investment on IT products and services difficult. Due to the overall negative correlation between economy-wide productivity and the coming of computers is behind many of the arguments that IT investments have been in some cases counter-productive.
